Background and Contacts

Toumaz Technology is the leader in ultra-low power silicon solutions for total connectivity in the wireless world.

Based in Abingdon in the UK, Toumaz was founded in 2000 to exploit developments in ultra-low power silicon chip technology at Imperial College, London. The company’s proprietary Advanced Mixed Signal – AMx™ – technology resulted from development of ultra-low power techniques in signal processing and wireless systems, leading to chips consuming up to 100 times less power than other state-of-the art devices.  Products that came out of this research include the Sensium™ generic wireless sensor platform and the Zoum™ ultra-low power radio module.

From the outset Toumaz has focused its AMx technology into the ‘Human Space’, recognising that a new generation of ultra low power silicon devices are set to enable an explosion of product opportunities in healthcare and lifestyle management.

Toumaz has retained strong links with Imperial College (with which it has an IP option pipeline agreement), extending these into the new Institute of Biomedical Engineering at Imperial, headed by Toumaz co-founder Professor Chris Toumazou.

In November 2005, Toumaz completed a merger with AIM-listed nanotechnology investment vehicle Nanoscience Inc., providing access to significant additional funding and increased value by combining Toumaz’s technical strengths and Nanoscience’s financial and commercial expertise.
