A new report reviewing the year in wireless health outlines predictions that the wireless home health market is set to grow to $4.4 billion by 2013. The “Wireless Health: State of the Industry 2009 Year End Report” from MobiHealthNews aggregates a year’s worth of industry metrics to provide a comprehensive overview of the growth potential of the home health and wearable wireless sensor markets.
Research publicised by CTIA, the Wireless Association, puts the current wireless home health market at $304 million, with estimated annual growth rates of 96 percent in 2010, 126 percent in 2011, 95 percent in 2012, and 68 percent in 2013. According to ABI Research, the market for wearable wireless sensors will grow to more than 400 million devices by 2014.
The report also cites research showing that currently 300 million people in Europe and the US have at least one chronic disease that may benefit from home health monitoring. In the US alone, the total costs of managing chronic diseases in the healthcare systems today tops $1.4 trillion.
The end of the year review summarises the current progress of the leading innovators in the mobile health market, and highlights Toumaz Technology’s clinical trial of the Sensium “digital plaster” wireless body monitoring taking place at St Mary’s Hospital (part of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, please see release here: http://www.toumaz.com/public/news.php?id=91).
