Main purpose of the job

To ensure that the embedded software developed by the software development team continues to meet the relevant requirements and expected high standards. In most cases this involves developing a test system and scripts derived from the test specification. It will typically involve working with software and hardware engineers as part of a multidisciplinary project team and this role is likely to suit someone who is interested in scripting unit and integration tests in languages such as C. The test role will cover all aspects of the test cycle from early definition phases through to field use.

You will be creating test scripts and building up test systems for several projects and you will therefore be providing the vital links between the Requirements Specification, the Test Specification and the finished product. As a project team member you will be responsible for carrying out your specific project tasks within the timescales and budgets agreed with your project managers.

The test technician will work on projects in multidisciplinary teams, sometimes on more than one concurrently. High quality work is essential from every team member.

Minimum requirements

Experience of efficient and repeatable testing in an embedded software environment
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Experience of system and integration testing
Experience of testing embedded software
Good understanding of testing and defect life cycles
Understanding of waterfall and V model.
Ability to multitask
Excellent attention to detail
Proficient in the use of MS Office (Excel / Word / PowerPoint etc)

Desirable

Good understanding of healthcare industry (domain)
ISEB Fundamental / Intermediate certificate in Software testing
Skills in automating testing to enable higher test coverage within a given time
Experience of one or more version control systems
Experience of one or more issue tracking systems
Experience of generating tests plans from requirement specifications or use cases
Familiarity with one or more embedded software toolchains
